Section 1 Birth of the Messiah as foretold in the Jewish Scriptures.

Bible Prophecy One

A Deliverer.

God has always promised mankind that He would send a deliverer, someone who would rescue man from his helplessness and sin. The Bible calls this deliverer a "Messiah" which is a Hebrew word. Translated into Greek, this word Messiah is "Christ." These words simply mean one who is authorized or anointed by God to be His deliverer.

How can we know who this Messiah is? God did not leave us helpless. This is the most important issue we have to solve in life. It means life and death. God proved who this Messiah is by giving us accurate prophecies in which we may rely.

This first group of prophecies has to do with the birth of the Messiah.

Concerning His birth. The Messiah would be born of a virgin.

"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).

Text Box: Fulfillment

Hundreds of years later, an angel visited a young Jewish woman named Mary.

"And having come in, the angel said to her, 'Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women! ' But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS '" (Luke 1:28-31).

"He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest [The Most High God]; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. Öand of His kingdom there will be no end" Luke 1:32,33b).

Can you imagine what Mary must have thought? The angel told her that she would give birth to the Son of God!

Even more amazing was the fact that Mary had never had relations with a man!

An angel also appeared to Mary 's husband Joseph. He told him that the fact that Mary was pregnant and still a virgin was the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14.

"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 'Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, ' which is translated, 'God with us '" (Matthew 1:21-23).

I have to be honest with you, the reader. Years ago I could not believe that a child could be born to a virgin. It was a stumbling block to me. But the day came when God Himself opened my eyes and I "saw."

Bible Prophecy Two

The Messiah would be the seed of Abraham.

"In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice" (Genesis 22:18).

"The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham" (Matthew 1:1).

Path of the Messiah. Adam > Seth > Several generations > Noah > Shem > Seven generations > Nahor > Terah > Abraham > Isaac > Jacob > Judah > Several generations > David >.

It is interesting to note, that in 70 AD the Roman general Titus destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. Also destroyed were the clay pots inside of the Temple that held the records of birth and genealogy for all of Israel. Therefore, since 70 AD, no so-called Messiahs can prove that they were born of Abraham 's seed, or of any of the genealogy of the Bible prophecies.

Bible Prophecy Three

The Messiah would be the seed of Isaac.

"But God said to Abraham, 'Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called '" (Genesis 21:12).

"[Jesus was] the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor" (Luke 3:34).

Path of the Messiah. Adam > Seth > Several generations > Noah > Shem > Seven generations > Nahor > Terah > Abraham > Isaac > Jacob > Judah > Several generations > David >.

Bible Prophecy Four

The Messiah would be the seed of Jacob.

"I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult" (Numbers 24:17).

Bible Prophecy Five

The Messiah would be the seed of David.

"Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth" (Jeremiah 23:5).

"[Jesus was] the son of Melea, the son of Menan, the son of Mattathah, the son of Nathan, the son of David" (Luke 3:31).

Path of the Messiah. Adam > Seth > Several generations > Noah > Shem > Seven generations > Nahor > Terah > Abraham > Isaac > Jacob > Judah > Several generations > David >.

Bible Prophecy Six

The Messiah would be the seed of Jesse and the Tribe of Judah.

"The scepter [Kingship] shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people" (Genesis 49:10).

"There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots" (Isaiah 11:1).

"But one of the elders said to me, 'Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals '" (Revelation 5:5).

"[Jesus was] the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon" (Luke 3:32).

Path of the Messiah. Adam > Seth > Several generations > Noah > Shem > Seven generations > Nahor > Terah > Abraham > Isaac > Jacob > Judah > Several generations >Jesse > David >.

Bible Prophecy Seven

The Messiah would be born in the city of Bethlehem.

"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting" (Micah 5:2).

"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him. ' When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, 'In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel ' '" (Matthew 2:1-6).

Before Mary could give birth, the government required that all people return to the city of their birth for a census. They were to return to Bethlehem which a thousand years before had been King David's home.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem. They could not find a hotel room so they had to use a cave where animals were kept. This did not seem like a good place for the Messiah to be born, but God had a plan.

God knew the end from the beginning!

Bible Prophecy Eight

King Herod would kill all the children in the day of Jesus in order to kill the Messiah.

"Thus says the LORD: 'A voice was heard in Ramah, [1] Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more '" (Jeremiah 31:15).

Pharaoh had also tried to kill all the Hebrew children back in Egypt thousands of years earlier.

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 'A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more '" (Matthew 2:16-18).

"Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, 'Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him '" (Matthew 2:13).

Bible Prophecy Nine

The Messiah would be the seed of a [virgin] woman as opposed to the seed of a man.

In Genesis 3:15 God said to the serpent (Satan), "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

After Satan disguised himself as a serpent, a snake, God promised that a child of Eve 's would crush his head, but that he, Satan would bruise the child 's heel.

What did this mean?

Normally a child is the man 's seed. However Jesus was born of a virgin, therefore He was the only seed of a woman that ever existed.

Satan convinced the people to crucify Jesus. In crucifixion, one 's "heal is bruised." However, little did the people know, that the crucifixion of Jesus actually "crushed the head" of Satan.

When Jesus was raised from the dead, death and Satan had no more power over Him. He wants to give that same overcoming life to everyone today. But so many people will not accept this free gift of overcoming Satan.

Text Box: Fulfillment

"Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil" (Hebrews 2:14).

"And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen" (Romans 16:20).

"He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8).
